Lake Charles, LA is a very special place for my husband and I, as it was the first weekend getaway we had ever taken together 13 years ago. Coming up on our 10th wedding anniversary, and not having the time or really the funds to go on a far away vacation, it only seemed fitting that we head there to celebrate.
The fabulous L'Auberge Casino Resort in Lake Charles offered to host us and since it is only a short 2.5 hour drive from League City, we were able to spend a full two days there with the grandparents only having to watch our kids for one night.
L'Auberge has beautifully decorated rooms and super fancy suites - options for every personality and purpose! We stayed in a "Big Dog and Cool Cat Suite" and you can see my Facebook Live where I give a tour of the room HERE. This was one of the most incredible rooms we have ever stayed in!
After checking in, we were pretty hungry and headed to the Jack Daniel's Bar and Grill (sat out on the patio) for a light lunch. We shared a Wedge Salad and the Charcuterie Board. Both were delicious and even the presentation was quite the delight!
After lunch, my husband headed to the 1740 Barber for a luxurious shave and I darted directly to the pool/lazy river! I am a sucker for a good Lazy River and L'Auberge has one of the best - plenty of tubes, beautiful landscaping, fun music and a swim up bar! I was able to grab a chair for our stuff and a drink quickly, floated for a bit, and then Adam joined me with seriously the softest face I had ever felt! The pool is open daily from 8am -8pm (weather permitting) and is family friendly (but they also do have a section just for adults).
Now that we were all relaxed, we headed back up to our room to shower and prepare for a fun evening. We aren't HUGE gamblers but we do love to dabble a bit and the L'Auberge casino has some great slots and reasonably priced (especially if you go during the week) table games. It was nice to be able to play a little and not break the bank! I also highly recommend stopping by The L Bar located in the lobby - they have some fantastic hand crafted cocktails - we grabbed some martinis before heading to our official anniversary dinner at the AMAZING Ember Grille and Wine Bar.
Ahhhhh - the Ember Grille and Wine Bar! I seriously will be dreaming about the fantastic dinner we had there for awhile! With three kids 8 and under, we rarely have time for a fancy date night - so this was a real treat!
We started our meal with a nice bottle of red wine and lamp lollichops with mini chimichurri. My husband isn't a huge fan of lamb, but I convinced him to give these a try - and we both LOVED them!
For the main course we both ordered steaks cooked perfectly to our individual liking and enjoyed asparagus and truffle fries as sides.
And to top the night off, the chef fixed us a fantastic dessert sampling in honor of our anniversary! By the time we left, we were beyond full (we just had to eat every bite)!
We were serenaded by an amazing live piano player throughout the evening and were so happy to be able to celebrate our 10th Anniversary with dinner at Ember Grille and Wine Bar!
If you are looking for something a little less fancy, L'Auberge has other dining options like their Asia restaurant, Le Beaucoup Buffet, and Favorites Southern Kitchen.
While we were there, we did see tons of families and even learned that they do have a 24 hour game room for the kids!
