I can not believe Halloween is just a few days away which means Christmas isn't that far off. Honestly it has been hard getting in the Halloween Spirit with our 90 degree Texas weather we have been having but no fears, it is finally cooling down. I confess to loving this time of year because of the change in weather and well all the fun fall activities like going to get pumpkins, fall festivals and being able to dress up in something fun.
I grew up in Wisconsin so at Halloween we often had to bundle up to go trick or treating. My husband and I always read Jerry Seinfeld’s Halloween book and laugh about how Superman doesn’t wear a heavy coat because we always had to, so our kids don't get the humor in it when we are sweating our butts off while trick or treating. I guess the good thing is the sweat to work off all the mini candy bars I am picking out of my kids plastic pumpkins.
I love to make this time of year special for us because it kicks of the holidays with Christmas being the pinnacle event. After that it is boring for months with no fun stuff until Easter and that isn't nearly as big as the tri-events of Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. This is the time of year where my diet gets blown out of the water with all the good foods and treats that seem to surround us at every turn.
I love getting to celebrate all the there is about Halloween and I think it is also a great time to remind your kids about good eating habits but teaching how candy is a special once in awhile food because we all know that our kids would live on it if let them, heck I would if I didn't gain weight It is a good time to remind them about safety outside because with the cooler weather, my kids are always outside and the six year old has gotten a much longer leash because her friend is half way down the block. My husband has been reminding her all about stranger danger and what she needs to do
For us this is just a good old fun time to be together. We already went to the pumpkin picking, and are planning our fall festival outings. I got the house both inside and out decorated for Halloween plus I admit to more decorations for actual Halloween night. Plus my Mom is coming in as well for a visit because she loves to be with the kids for trick or treat.
Please everyone have a safe and fun Halloween. Remind your kids of the good things as well as the dangers they might face. Have fun as a family and enjoy this kick off of the holiday season. Now only like 57 or so days to Christmas- have you started shopping yet? Just kidding enjoy Halloween and have fun!!
