What is MOPS?

MOPS stands for Mothers of Preschoolers. MOPS International exists to meet the needs of every mom - urban, suburban and rural moms, stay-at-home and working moms, teen, single and married moms - moms with different lifestyles who all share a similar desire to be the very best moms they can be! MOPS recognizes that the years from infancy through kindergarten are foundational in a mother-child relationship and are filled with unique needs. For over 35 years, MOPS International has come alongside mothers of preschoolers during a challenging season to encourage, equip and develop them as women, mothers and leaders. MOPS International is a trusted resource with a reputation of consistency, growth and expertise in early mothering. Other organizations focus on making a better world for their children. At MOPS International, we focus on making better moms. We meet the needs of mothers, because when we impact a mom we impact a child and ultimately our world. MOPS helps moms through relationships established in the context of local groups that provide a caring atmosphere for today's mother of young children. About our local group...Like MOPS International, Gateway MOPS believes that better moms make better children, better children make a better community, and a better community makes a better world. The local group is organized and run by moms for moms. The steering committee consists of moms who step into leadership roles because they believe in the importance of encouraging, equipping and developing mothers of preschoolers. At Gateway, the needs of mothers are primarily met through meetings, play dates, coffee nights, and game nights. The Gateway MOPS group has meetings twice a month at Gateway Community Church. Childcare is provided so moms can be nurtured without distraction. Meetings usually consist of a time of informal conversation, a speaker who covers topics dealing with the physical, emotional, or spiritual health of the mothers, their children and their families, a structured discussion group, and a creative activity. Gateway MOPS operates within the community, to support the community, with the help of the community. Although moms pay meeting fees, these fees do not cover the entire operational costs. MOPS looks to our community to help meet operational costs and enable moms to be involved in MOPS who cannot afford the meeting fees. Gateway MOPS will be holding a Shopping Day on November 5th from 10am to 3pm at the Kermet H. Applewhite Sports and Recreation Center. Stop by for some great shopping - Macaroni Kid League City/Clear Lake will be there!
