Mommy Confessions

Yeah Motherhood!

By Rebecca Benson May 13, 2013

So today is Mother's Day- Yeah!! It is so great being a mom and so wonderful to celebrate this joyous occasion and remind me of the 20 plus hours of labor I went through before it was decided that I should have a emergency c-section with my first kid over seven years ago. Or all the times lately I have been dealing with potty accidents because someone refuses to go number two on the potty. Yeah Motherhood is awesome and yes note the smart tone to it.

Okay I seem to be down on it and sometimes as a Mom we get down on it because it can be the same   old stuff every day. I admit to being a frustrated Mom of  toddler who is as head strong as I am. Yeah butting heads each and everyday with someone is frustrating. I think I should go back to work if that is all I am going to do because that was all I did when I worked.

There are so many wonderful things with being a Mom and we all know what they are. The joys of seeing your kid take their first step or say their first word. We love experiencing the new things with them but at the same time, there is an ugly side to motherhood. Explosive diapers and projectile vomiting. Yeah those are super fun to deal with. Always fun to deal with a super tired whiny toddler.

I know that being a parent isn't always peaches and cream. I knew that when I signed up for it that there would be awesome times but there would be a lot of stuff that I would dread but still do it because we love our children with all our hearts. My son bats his eyes at me and instantly melts my heart even after he has drawn with marker mind you on his body for the umpteenth time. The last time he was super proud of his creation and was upset with me as I scrubbed it off his belly.

Kids are wonderful and celebrating a day of Motherhood isn't a bad thing but a day we should all reflect on how we are as mother's. Each of us struggle with guilt if we are doing a good enough job being a mother and likely most of us are doing a great job. Our kids show us to be both the best we can be as well as giving us those moments where we as mothers  question EVERYTHING we have ever done. We have those shining moments and those moments where we want to crawl in a hole.

So today have a good Mother's Day. Try to relax and enjoy a day that celebrates you. I know my day will be spent doing the same thing I do every day- loving my two kids and getting annoyed that they can't seem to pick any of there crap up off the floor.

Have a Happy Mother's Day!
