Mommy Confessions

Mismatched Life

By Rebecca Benson April 28, 2013

Did you ever have one of those weeks where it was the most random mismash of things that happen? I felt last week was one of those weeks and it was a great week. First we had out of town guests come in for a long weekend and I have to say they were awesome ones (okay I am totally brown nosing my parents). It was nice to have my Dad and Mom here because even in my mid thirties it is nice to have the parents around.

Next my oldest turned seven and when the heck did she become a big kid. She amazes me all the time with her unique take on life. She is a pretty positive and grateful kid though she liked to scare my Dad every morning with a wake up hug. He was worried he was going to go into cardiac arrest because she would creep in and shout good morning Grandpa at the tops of her lungs. It was the cutest thing and he did really love it!

We also were lucky enough to witness about 125 1st graders perform the school musical. My poor kiddo was right up in the front and looked terrified but she still would like to try some sort of acting class next fall. It was so cute to see all the adorable kiddos get up there and sing their hearts out. My daughter was excited because her grandparents were there. Each of those kiddos did a awesome job.

Than for my kiddos birthday, we ventured to the hottest Houston hotspot for little girls. Yes that is right, the American Girl store. After enjoying our meal and listening to Happy Birthday sung no less than four times to four different girls (yes I know that sounds snarky), we of course went shopping. Geez I wish this store was a round when I was seven because I could lose myself in there. So after shopping my kiddo decided that Molly needed to make her home here in our house and joined Kit.

These moments are the ones that remind me that she still is a little girl as I watched her help her doll sip tea while lunching. After all that fun, we some how also did a birthday party with about 20 kids though not the same day. It was a blast seeing all those kids swim and stuff their faces with birthday cake. My daughter was so thankful for it all and keeps telling us almost a week later how great it was.

The boy had a good week too and actually for the most part was well behaved though still working on potty training stuff. We got one part down and now working on the next one. It amazes me when it starts clicking though I admit to having the expectation for it to click faster but I have to remind myself he to is still little.

My kids seem to be growing up so fast. It seems just like yesterday that we brought each of them home from the hospital. The first time so unaware what we were getting our selves into even with the second one, it still was strange and unknown. I know life is about a bunch of mismashed events and with the bad that happen last week, I saw the good of my life all around me.
