Mommy Confessions

Good People

By Rebecca Benson April 21, 2013

Lately I feel like I see the worst of people. I am tired of going out only to be cut off, ignored or on occasion almost hit. A few weeks ago the same driver almost hit me twice in the grocery store parking lot. I admit to not being the most stellar person with my reaction.

I find it increasingly hard to see the good in people though I continue trying to be the best person I can be. I keep on my kids to be nice and I choose to associate with good people. If you are not a good person, well I really don't want to have you in my life.

I know it is hard in this world to be a good person when we see so much bad. We have been watching all the things about the Boston Marathon. You wonder who and why did they do this. We may never know the answer even when they track the person down. Though times like this we see the good in people.

I commend everyone who came to the rescue and assisted during the aftermath but I wish we would see more good in the every day of our lives. We can't forget to be better people as we go through life no matter what the situation is as we take this adventure. I always think if everyone did a little, a lot of things can get done.

We need to challenge ourselves to be better people. I am not saying we all need to rush out to volunteer or give to charity but to be a better person in our day to day lives. Good ways are slowing down when we are driving and be more aware of the other drivers. I wish on a daily basis that other drivers would be aware of me on the road instead of thinking they are the only ones out there.

If we took a step back and just slowed down in general, we would all start to see the good in the world. If we were more aware of our surroundings, we would start to notice the things in life we really should cherish. I love the idea of paying it forward by just doing a kind thing for someone and often times it doesn't have to cost anything but moments of your time.

It saddens me that in times like this, it motivates us to be better when we should be better all the time. We forget about everything in our daily hustle and bustle of life. It annoys us when we extend ourselves and get nothing in return yet often that is the case so we need to just continue on.

Challenge yourself this week to do something positive for someone else. Something the other person doesn’t even have to know about. It could be as simple as holding a door open at the store  or sending a  note just to say hi. If we all do something small, bog changes can happen.
