My daughter is turning 6 in a few weeks and wanted a birthday party. I tried discouraging her and asking if we could take a trip instead but no she wanted a party. So now I am planning a party that like all my parties is a little out of control. I invited a ton of kids which included some friends, her whole class and her scout troop.
I admit this happens every year. I start out small but it gets big. Her first birthday we were in some control but the second was outrageous. Though I have some great pictures from it and the kid got her first sno cone which was pure heaven for her. The thing is my daughter is social and loves to have people over. She enjoys getting presents but truthfully she has more fun just having her friends over running around like crazy.
This year I asked her what she wanted her theme to be and she picked Olivia the pig. So searching the internet and such, I found tons of Olivia the Pig items and even have a cake being made of her favorite pig. When the party supplies arrived the other day, she was so excited to see all the goodies for her party.
I am now working on food which she wants a particular thing but I finally told her that wasn't going to happen because we need to save some funds but my awesome Aunt told me she can cook what ever we want at a fraction of the cost so the kiddo is getting generally what she likes to eat.
I really do enjoy doing this for her and I know she appreciates it because of the look on her face when the party is happening. To add to all of the chaos this year she also asked for an expensive present. She has never asked for something like this and we debated back and forth about it for quite awhile.
The kid asked for a portable gaming system. I knew it would happen at some point but I was surprised she asked for it now. I admit to being concerned that she will become obsessed with it but my husband and I are creating rules and sticking to them when she gets it at her party. I guess it makes me realize by her asking for this she is getting older and that saddens me.
We waited so long for her arrival six years ago and she is the sweetest little girl so I love doing things for her. She is grateful for everything she has and has this sunshine personality that is so infectious so that is why things tend to get out of control with her birthdays. She lets so many people around her shine, I like to give her that day so she can shine.
So I am off to finish all those things that need to get done before her party because I love to have it special for her and her guests. I hope that maybe next year I can convince her no party but for now she can enjoy being a kid and we can just have a good time!
