This week I have to confess that I am cheap or as I like to call it frugal. I can't say it started when I first left my job, nope I have always been cheap. I hate to spend money on things I can either find for a great price or even make. I am always looking for ways to do something on the cheap with the kids too because I hate spending money.
Don't get me wrong, I do spend and sometimes it can seem like I spend like crazy. Yes there are times I have done that. I fully admit to owning my fair share of designer purses and I had for years a shoe problem but finally cut back on that because I had so many. I actually admit to buying the same purse twice from Old Navy at the height of my purse addiction (I bought them like six months apart and only realized after I found the other one in the closet).
The thing is I have always been frugal to some degree and always looking for a deal so I feel better about it. I hate to be over charged for things and shop the ads like crazy when I need things. When we were looking for a television for my husband's man cave, I looked for months and it paid off with a nice television for a great price.
Creatively this is a great way to be so because I have learned to upcycle lots of different things. My daughter needed a dresser so I found one at a garage sale, painted it her favorite color and it cost about 30 bucks (the paint was the most expensive part). Even my husband gets into it by finding projects. He redid our old dining room table which is awesome looking and I am trying to figure out a good place for it in the house.
Being frugal I also find ways to do fun things on the cheap with the kids. I refuse to pay full price for any attraction or even their memberships. I got the Zoo at a discount as well as the Children's museum. Those deal sites are awesome for those things. I also shop many websites for daily deals. I find lots of great things for my crafts or house on those things. I also don't go any where without my trusty coupons for everything. When I was growing up, often where we would go out to eat would be decided by what coupon my Dad had in his stash. The truth is we always ate well and saving a few bucks was a good thing.
I am by far not as frugal as I would like to be and am so envious of the extreme coupon people. I so want to challenge myself one of this days to collect, cut and see how cheap I can get the bill. In this day and age, every penny counts and being frugal is a good thing. I love when I find a deal that makes my day.
