Spring Break Fever

By Rebecca Benson March 17, 2012

This week has been Spring Break for everyone and it was our official first time as Spring Breakers with the kindergartner who has well been loving it. We first hit the Zoo on Monday and even though it was misting, it felt wonderful to just get out and walk which with all that rain the past few weeks here in Houston has made it hard (I love my walks).

Monday also brought us the adventure of finding a stray dog outside on our driveway. We have been looking for his home and even put signs up but no one has claimed the sweetie who has quickly adjusted to living in my house. So it is likely he is staying unless he gets claimed at some point.

Than Tuesday we ventured to the Rodeo where it was misting again and that also felt so nice. The kids had a blast and my daughter insisted on eating ribs the size of her right arm. I guess my kid is a true Texan. The kids love the Rodeo for all of the very family friendly events. We didn't see the show because my toddler wouldn't have sat through it but hope one of these years to be able to go inside.

Wednesday was Strawberry picking out in Alvin at Froberg's and if you haven't been out there it is well worth the drive. Plus we had a fun play date with some friends that the kids don't get to see so often. The whole idea is to keep the kids busy and occupied while out of school. We have done way more in a few days than I normally do all week long.

My daughter loves school but these down times with me is very important to her. She needs to have that in order to still remind herself that it is fun to be a kid. She enjoys being with us and I dread the day when she doesn’t want to be with us.

So I worked hard at limiting Spring Break fever. I got the kids up and running most of the days and finding fun and free or really cheap things to do with the exception of the Rodeo but that is that rare treat we all get to do.

I fully admit that I miss hanging out with my kiddo since she started school last fall. It is nice to have an extra set of hands around here during the day to entertain her little brother but I also know how important that school is for her. She loves it and truly enjoys going to learn all sorts of things.

As Spring Break winds down, she will be back to school on Monday for her final quarter as a Kindergartner and will be working towards becoming a first grader. We will enjoy an awesome summer  together and once the end of August comes, it will all start again. Though for now I am going to enjoy having her home for the week and being my baby!
