Mommy Confessions

Staying Home

By Rebecca Benson February 18, 2012

I am very fortunate to be able to stay at home with my kids. It is honestly not something I ever saw myself doing or even choosing but about three years ago along with my husband, the decision was made that I would start staying home. It wasn’t the easiest decision we had ever made and it was likely one of the scariest because of so many factors the main which one in being money.

I have to say though it was the best decision for us as a family and I know it isn’t always the right decision for everyone.  I was honestly worried that I would begin to hate it and want to go back to work but so far that hasn’t happened. I would love to earn money but figuring out a way to do that from home is something I work at all the time.

When I started staying home, I found my family and myself growing closer because we started spending so much more time together. For me personally, the decisions created some amazing opportunities for all of us.  Now three years later, I wish I had done it sooner but honestly I wasn’t at the ready point.

It was a lot of factors that kept me working as well as a lot of factors that made the decision for me to stay home. When I first left work I was actually more stressed than I had been at work because I worried about making the right choice. I didn’t sleep much the first few weeks but then it worked out for me and then groove of being home started happening.  Sleep finally came for me and well I sleep way better now.

I never question any woman’s decision either way in regards if they choose to work or stay home. My sister in law wanted to go back to work after my niece was born because she told me she loves her job, the people she works with and she sees herself with a good future in the company. That is a wonderful thing and if I was in her shoes, I would be working too.

Whatever decision a mom makes is their own personal one.  They are doing it for the reasons that are right for them and their family.  As a mom we try to do the best for our kids. Sometimes we don’t but here’s to doing most of it right. If you work, try hard not to overwhelm yourself with the guilt we often have. I know when I worked, it was sometimes overbearing for me. I worked hard at trying to balance it out.

As a mom, make the right decisions for yourself and your kids. I work every day at making the decisions that work for us. Sometimes they don’t while other times, the decision was the right one. I also take ownership of my decisions and feel that helps me hold on to them better. Ultimately do what is best for you as a mom.
