Splashway Waterpark and Campgrounds - Take a Local Vacation

A Macaroni Review

By Lindsay Flagan June 23, 2016
This past weekend, my family and I had the special privilege of being hosted by Splashway Waterpark and Campgrounds in Sheridan, TX - an easy 2 hour drive from League City.

When we arrived, we instantly knew we were someplace special.  We were greeted by a team of people, and this was before they even knew that I was there as a guest to write a review.  You see, Splashway is family owned (so not a big chain) and they hand pick their employees to care about their guests from the moment they walk in.  They want you to stay the day (or through the night for that matter... more on the campground in a bit), be comfortable, and enjoy some family fun.  And people - this place is CLEAN!  After the wonderful greeting, I was instantly struck on how clean everything was!

In our experience many parks put money into just getting you there, it is obvious that Splashway uses their money to take care of you while you are there!  The next thing that struck me as we were walking through the park was all the seating options!  Splashway goes out of their way to ensure that they have more than enough seating for everyone, there are tons and tons of chairs, tables, and even cabanas.  They aren't squeezing everyone in to make the place look full resulting in families wandering with crying kids just looking for a corner to sit in.... if the place fills up - they have even more tables and chairs in a nearby storage and have been known to bring even more in - so you can enjoy your family time.

We enjoyed a nice cabana next to the wave pool during our stay, complete with table and chairs and a handy dandy call button to order food and drink!  Splashway Waterpark does allow guests to bring in their own picnic and you can even rent a grill for your own BBQ - so you never feel "trapped"... but our family did order off their menu and prices were very reasonable, the food was plentiful and delicious, and the service was prompt!

Now for the fun - our kids are 7, 5, and 2.  I was so happy to see that Splashway Waterpark had water features for everyone in the family.  Chase (2) enjoyed the abundance of kiddies slides:

And they older two enjoyed that there were more non-kiddie slides that were fun for their age - but as they put it, "not the crazy kind that go high up".

There is also a wonderful lazy river that feeds into more kiddies areas and that some of the slides empty into, a wave pool, and of course bigger water slides that are great for older kids and adults... or there is the option for a double tube and as long as your kids are over 42 inches they can go on them.  My son and I opted to try the Tubular Tornado.  You can see all of their attractions on their website.  Helpful lifeguards are also everywhere - so we always felt safe.

After a day in the sun and water, we could not imagine driving home - plus wanted a little vacation - so we got to stay at the Splashway Campground.  They have everything from primitive sites, to RV sites, to cabins with air conditioning.  Let me have you guess what we stayed in....  yes - a cabin - those of you that know me, know I am not a true camping girl.

See this is camping my style:

We loved that our cabin had a screened in porch with a table, fire pit outside for s'mores, full kitchen and bathroom, and could sleep up to 10 people!

Our kids loved sleeping up in the loft!

And the fun doesn't stop! The campground has a full list of activities for the kids on the weekends including hayrides, arts and crafts, movie night and more. There is also a playground, hiking trails, and my kids' favorite - a stocked fishing pond! Kayaks and paddleboats are also available for rental.

At night - we used our firepit for the obligatory camping s'mores and headed off to a great night of air-conditioned sleep.  And then in the morning - I got to do one of my favorite things - wake up before everyone else and sit outside for a nice cup of coffee (that is a deer feeder you see in the distance - it dumps food every once and awhile and several times we saw deer feeding.... of course didn't have my camera on me to capture that... so you will just have to visit Splashway Waterpark and Campground to see for yourself!)

My family and I received complimentary water park admission and accommodations to facilitate this review.  All opinions are my own.
