Underground Pilates and Barre

Friendswood Fitness Studio

By Macaroni Kid League City/Clear Lake January 14, 2016

Underground Pilates and Barre is a "small, personal and friendly studio," as owner Cristie Anton puts it.  Run by Cristie and her daughter, Kimberly Anton, this Friendswood fitness studio features routines designed to improve clients' strength, flexibility and posture.

Cristie opened her studio at 607 S. Friendswood Drive, Suite 21, in 2013.  Before that she conducted exercise classes from her home for four years.
Prior to using her skills as professional dancer in the fitness world, Cristie was gracing the stages of Japan and Puerto Rico. She also was in a production of the musical "A Chorus Line" in New York City, which is where she met her husband, David Anton. They moved to New Jersey where they started a family, and Cristie taught fitness classes at gyms.  She soon learned about Pilates, the fitness system named after Joseph Pilates.  Joseph Pilates, German physical fitness specialist, designed the method in the 1960s.

Kimberly is a mother of a 3 year old daughter and found that Pilates changed her body for the better - she is skinnier now than before getting pregnant!

Underground's group equipment classes are small and personalized with no more than five people. In addition to teaching Pilates, the studio offers fitness routines that incorporate ballet barres with up to eight people.

The studio offers private and duet training, as well and is planning to begin a Mommie and Me class for non-crawling babies beginning the first week of February.  They also plan to host specialized children's camps during Spring Break and the Summer months.

Underground is open Mondays - Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. To learn more about the studio, visit the studio's website or call 281-797-6442.
